A Warm Welcome to Central Academy

🇪🇨 𝓔𝓬𝓾𝓪𝓭𝓸𝓻 𝓔𝔁𝓹𝓮𝓭𝓲𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 🇪🇨 🗻 𝐻𝑒𝓁𝓁𝑜 𝒸𝒶𝓂𝓅 𝐿𝑜𝓈 𝒜𝓃𝒹𝑒𝓈 🗻 We have arrived at our final camp of our expedition around beautiful Ecuador. Camp Los Andes is based at the foothills of the amazing Cotacachi and Imbabura Volcanoes in northern Ecuador. On arrival we were greeted by the community before playing games with the local children. On Tuesday, we began our project work, completing a tourist trail footpath, aimed at bringing tourists into the area, with lots of moving and laying heavy rocks along the path. In the afternoon we moved onto working in the community school, helping the local maestro’s to build a new classroom and completing the painting of the different school buildings. In the evening we were formally welcomed to the by the local community through their ancient traditional celebration ritual based around the agricultural history of the area. 🇪🇨 𝓔𝓬𝓾𝓪𝓭𝓸𝓻 𝓔𝔁𝓹𝓮𝓭𝓲𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 🇪🇨 🙌🏼🗻 𝑀𝒾𝓈𝓈𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝒶𝒸𝒸𝑜𝓂𝓅𝓁𝒾𝓈𝒽𝑒𝒹 🙌🏼🗻 A great morning here in Ecuador as our whole team were able to summit El Cunrro at 3256m above sea level! Super proud of all of our team… A huge achievement for everyone following some sickness and injuries in the team. 🇪🇨 𝓔𝓬𝓾𝓪𝓭𝓸𝓻 𝓔𝔁𝓹𝓮𝓭𝓲𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 🇪🇨 As we approach the last week of our adventure around Ecuador, we have had the opportunity to visit lots of key features of Ecuador. On Saturday we visited Cotapaxi, the largest and most active volcano in all of South America, last erupting in 2023! 🌋 On Sunday, we then visited the centre of the Earth’ where we stood at Longitude 0.00 (Mr Armstrong’s geography nerd’ing was obviously in full swing here). A very interesting look at how Ecuador was the centre of early cartography and how Mount Cotapaxi was, and still is used and a key waypoint for understanding global locations as well as star patterns. ✨ We then moved onto our beautiful accommodation at Pondo Wash where we hiked up Mirador Mucha Naku Rumi (2997m) to the amazing viewpoint over the Angochagua valley. Returning for some volleyball and cultural dancing with the local community that evening. Despite lots of illness, sunburn and difficult challenges to overcome, the whole team have remained upbeat and engaged immensely from start to finish, demonstrating respect, resilience and ambition throughout! 💙 Today, the team will aim to summit El Cunrro at 3256m above sea level, before we transfer down to our final camp, Los Andes.
