Extra-Curricular Activities

Helping to develop responsible, caring and citizen-conscious individuals

At Central Academy we place great value on the role of extra-curricular activities in developing responsible, caring and citizen-conscious individuals. Extra-curricular activities help shape character, enhance interaction and promote leadership qualities. We strive to support a range of activities that students can choose from facilitated by our dedicated staff. Students are strongly encouraged and even expected, to participate in at least one extra-curricular activity per week

Our Aims:

  • Develop further interest
  • Provide an added level of engagement
  • Support parent-staff-student relationships
  • Give lifelong memories

Our Longer Term Aims:

  • For students to plan, run and lead sessions enabling dedicated staff to aid and facilitate.
  • To work with the local community and business partners so that some extra-curricular activities emerge into an alternative curriculum that supports our curriculum offer.

Extra-Curricular Categories

All of our activities are placed into the following categories. Each category has its own aims:

Student Government

Diversity

The Arts

Caring Community

 Sport and Leisure

Student Government

Encourage higher standards in academics, leadership, loyalty, honesty and mutual respect. Provide an effective means for students to express their wishes on matters directly concerning them, the Academy and the community. This category of extra-curricular activities has a core aim of promoting the fundamental British Values of democracy, rule of law, tolerance, and individual liberty.

Diversity

To help students articulate their own cultural perspectives and explain how their experiences have shaped their cultural perspectives. To develop an understanding in and an awareness of different cultures in the local, national and international arenas.

The Arts

Designed to consolidate the learning that takes place in lessons and provide opportunities to develop new skills and techniques with art, design, music and drama. A fundamental priority of these activities is to ensure students are exposed to further opportunities not always available in the curriculum.

Caring Community

This category supports one of our key values. Being part of a caring community is something we want all of our students to aspire to and the extra-curricular activities are designed to support all stakeholders within the local Central community. A school at the heart of the community, for the community.

Sport and Leisure

Extra-curricular sport and leisure promotes vast amounts of essential life skills required by students. Within a controlled and relaxed environment, students develop skills such as goal setting, teamwork, time management, prioritisation, problem-solving, analytical thinking, leadership and public speaking.
